Dogs and Skunks

It’s the middle of the night and my 12 pound dog is barking like mad. At first I figure its the wind blown rain that has him acting up but he won’t let up. I get out of bed and he follows me to the window eager to show me exactly what I am missing. Under the amber light cast by the street light I squint to make out a few small images moving around at the base of the front steps and recognize a family of skunks.
Isn’t it too early to see them? It’s March 2nd and normally this site is reserved for April or May. It’s going to be a long summer.
