Marc Richardson, Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show 2019
The 2019 Westminster Dog Show without question is the pinnacle forum for a dog lover who happens to be a photographer.
My path to this fantastic spectacle of dogs has spanned a few decades. I started out using a film camera in the mid eighties shooting college buddies on road trips. These simple experiences helped capture a glimpse of time that can forever bring back the youthfulness of those college years.
Pictures to me, no matter what brand of camera you use has the same sentimental value today as it did over two centuries ago. Being able to capture the one special moment a dog may display in or outside the ring will bring a smile to those who love dogs and those who just may gloss over the ordinary. A picture taken at just the right time has the power to tell a story and show that dogs have feelings as well.
So when that picture is viewed, people will say to themselves that this is no ordinary moment. A glimpse of extraordinary is what drives our craft of photography and being the one that pushes the shutter button, creating art with a complex machine, turning a dogs hug or kiss into a Picasso. It’s all the kudos I will ever need when printing out my photographs.
