The Artistry of Giedre Maybe.
There are very few people I refer to as masters at what they do – but the first time I saw these little jewels – my heart skipped a beat and I had to know more. I am asking all of our friends to take a look at these gorgeous pieces of art and tell me they aren’t perfect.
Ms. Maybe pieces are perfection and in high demand and we look forward to following all her work in the years to come.

There are stories worth telling, and there are those better left untold. It just so happens that we are gifted with emotions, joyous as often as not. Some friends you only cross paths with, meanwhile others are for life. And then there‘s a cold, wet nose, a sturdy, hairy paw, rough fur and eyes, full of sincerity and loyalty. This is for life. It engulfs emotions, remarkable stories and true companionship.
Born and raised in Lithuania, I could tell a lot about myself, but the atmosphere begs for a cozy table, candlelight, a cup of tea or a glass of red wine, a four-legged friend curled up beside me, and you, the reader.
I took up carving 2 years ago. It‘s also how I found myself. It has become a deep state, in which I do what pleases and drives me, this self-realisation of sorts, where I find myself giving it all, be it time or energy. Hunting is one of my hobbies as well, where I am surrounded by nature, wild animals and hunting dogs.
It‘s incredible how noble and graceful wild animals are. I used to be overjoyed after finding lost antlers. And so it happened that one day an idea came – what if I tried to make something beautiful out of them, even just as a memento. Tools were as simple as they come, but I did it, I managed to carve a roe. Needless to say, I was very fond of this first endeavor, so I shared it on my facebook newsfeed. Some time passed and I got requests. This time – dogs.
I took it up and I succeeded. This rather random hobby of mine became my daily life, something that I love doing. An amazing sensation that is – to breathe life into an antler.
I carve based on what photos clients send me and dogs are my susceptibility. First steps are the hardest, since you have to get the general shape and motion right. Once that that is taken care of, step by step, a nose, then an eye, and you gradually begin to see that the carving looks back at you. This feeling is nothing short of euphoric. As if I am a sorceress, waving a magic wand.
My works reach people near and far and every conversation is warm and personal. Sometimes you just can‘t pick the right photo, one which would reveal the essence of a particular animal. So you keep asking for photos from all those different angles, until the golden mean is captured. Intuition navigates towards a pose where a canine of a particular breed can be seen as fundamentally beautiful, both internally and externally.
I do so cherish the moment when a photo of the work done is sent to a client. Anxiously, I wait for a response. And then – tears of joy. Dog carvings become part of my life. I remember their names and relish their accomplishments as well as moments of happiness that I see on the internet. I also keep in contact with their owners past the delivery.
These are the stories worth remembering and telling. And these are sincere emotions and friends, no matter how far, that your paths converge with. Once they do, they tend to stay that way.
Those cold, wet noses and heartfelt gazes is exactly what I want to express in my carvings. So let us take into our hands a hairy paw and squeeze it gently. Once you have dreams, everything becomes possible. Pursue them day after day. Do not let go and one day you may wake up and find yourself doing what you love, for all the right reasons.
