USPCA Region 7 Certification Trials

Dogs Outside The Ring has been been eager to cover Police K9 Dogs as we want to be able to share a world of dogs with our readers. When we were told there was a USPCA Region 7 Certification Trial being held a half hour drive away we knew we would be going to it.

Police officers and their dogs have an extraordinary relationship that often times people don’t really think about until they are needed. The dedication and work put into this partnership brings a deeper understanding of what is expected of each other while actively doing their job to keep us safe. The loyalty of each team is cemented by the knowledge that both officers and dogs put their lives on the line every time they go out into this unpredictable world we live in.
While watching how focused these K9s were during these trials I found myself thinking that obedience and love is key to the success of each team when they are out in the field working. These dogs love their partners and it was clearly apparent when watching the testing just how in tuned with them they are.
The honor of witnessing this extraordinary team work has me wanting to hold up all the police K9 units across the country as a national treasure to the people. We need to pay attention as these officers and highly intelligent, dedicated dogs work hard and put themselves in front of all danger to protect and defend us.

At the end of the day when the uniforms and vests come off these dedicated K9s go home with their partners and live a life as a family member that is loved, cherished and cared for. After all they are the hardest working dogs and the mightiest of heroes in the dog world.

The USPCA Region 7 Certification Trials were held in Warwick NY and hosted by the Warwick PD K9 Unit and held at the Warwick Town Park.

One question has been asked by many of our friends in regards to why the K9 officers were wearing three collars and the answer given by a member of the a K9 team photographed below.
The flat leather collar is used for tracking and apprehension work, the pinch collar is for on leash control and obedience and the E collar is for distance control and communication.

A Police Dogs Prayer

A POLICE DOG’S PRAYER
Oh almighty God, 
whose great power and eternal
wisdom embraces the universe, 
watch over my handler while I sleep. 
Protect my handler from harm 
while I am unable to do so.
I pray, help keep our streets and homes
safe while my handler and I rest. 
I ask for your loving care because 
my handler’s duty is dangerous. 
Grant my handler your unending strength
and courage in our daily assignments.
Dear God,
protect my brave handler,
grant your almighty protection, 
unite my handler safely with the family 
after the tour of duty has ended. 
I ask nothing for myself.
Amen.
